The level of career firefighters across Aotearoa has barely changed since the 1990s, and it's no wonder, with the rank of firefighter sitting under the minimum wage, which isn't even a liveable wage.

It's dangerous work, not only are they at greater risk of eminent death in a blaze, firefighters are also at higher risk of contracting specific cancers - due to the carcinogens they inhale when fighting fires.

Our firefighters deserve to be paid to reflect the risk that they take on, and the incredible service that they provide in protecting our communities.
